| Artist’s Statement |
Each artist is not a special kind of person but each person is a special kind of artist. |
This statement exemplifies my life as an artist and arts educator. Art, for me, is my ongoing attempt to engage others in the work that I create. If I can leave the viewer wondering about the many possibilities of the work, I believe I have been successful. My work is not my attempt to show or to lecture on what is, but to nudge, suggest, and to stimulate a response from the inner life of the viewer. When someone looks at my work, I would like him or her to become fully engaged, and to be more cognizant of his or hers own ideas and feelings about my creations. In the end, my work is a stimulus for self-reflection and awareness, for the discovery of our own unique qualities as thinking and feeling human beings.
